Hotspot questions enhance learning by engaging students visually, promoting critical thinking, and objectively assessing understanding of visual information.

To create a hotspot question in Blackboard Ultra, follow these steps:

  1. Access Your Test or Assignment:

  2. Select "Hotspot":

    • From the list of question types, choose Add Hotspot question.
  3. Add Question Text:

    • In the Type Question # field, write the question text to provide context for the image.
  4. Upload an Image:

    • Drag and drop an image file (JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG, or BMP) into the Upload Area.
    • Alternatively, click Upload from device to select an image from your computer.
  5. Create Hotspots:

    • Click the shapes beside the Add a Hotspot label to add a custom shape hotspot.
    • You can choose from rectangular, circular, or polygonal hotspots by clicking the corresponding button.
    • Drag the hotspot to the desired location on the image.
    • You can add multiple hotspots to an image.
  6. Define Correct Answers:

    • Click on each hotspot to select it as a correct or incorrect answer.

  7. Show Hotspots to Students (Optional):

    • If you want students to see the location of the hotspots before answering, enable the Show hotspots to students option.
  8. Save Your Question:

    • Click Save to add the hotspot question to your test or assignment.

Additional Tips:

  • Image Size: Ensure that your image is clear and of sufficient size to allow for accurate hotspot placement.
  • Hotspot Size: Adjust the size of the hotspots to match the target area on the image.
  • Feedback: Provide specific feedback for correct and incorrect answers to help students learn.
  • Testing: Test your hotspot question to ensure it works as expected.

Creating hotspot questions enables you to assess students' visual understanding and critical thinking skills.
