You can create fill-in-the-blank questions using Blackboard Ultra.

To create this kind of question in Ultra:

1. Access Your Test or Assignment:

  • Navigate to the test or assignment where you want to add the question.
  • Click the button.

Helpful Reading: If you have not yet created a Test or Assignment, learn how to create an assignment/activity.

2. Select "Fill in the Blank":

  • From the list of question types, choose Fill in the Blank.

3. Create Your Question:

  • Type your question: Write the question prompt as you normally would.
  • Add brackets around the answer: Place square brackets around the word or phrase that you want students to fill in. For example:
    • "The capital of France is [Paris]."
    • "Water is composed of [hydrogen] and [oxygen]."
  • Specify Answer Evaluation (see number 4). You may do this by selecting "Next Step."

4. Specify Answer Evaluation (Optional):

  • Exact Match: The student's answer must match the exact word or phrase you've specified.
  • Contains: The student's answer must contain a specific word or phrase within it.
  • Pattern Match: You can use regular expressions to define more complex matching patterns.

5. Add Multiple Correct Answers (Optional):

  • Separate multiple correct answers with a semicolon. For example:
    • "[red;blue;yellow]"

6. Save Your Question:

  • Click Next Step to review your question and its settings.
  • Click Save to add the question to your test or assignment.
