  3. Select Assignment: In the Create Item panel, choose Assignment.
  4. Enter Assignment Details: Provide a title and add instructions or files as needed.

Assignment Submission Details

Once you have inputted the assignment title and instructions, take time to take a look at the Assignment Settings.

Due Date:

  • Set Due Date: Specify the deadline for the assignment. This date will appear on the course calendar and in the activity stream.
  • Prohibit Late Submissions: Prevent students from submitting work after the due date. In-progress and saved attempts will auto-submit at the due date.
  • Prohibit New Attempts After Due Date: Stop students from starting new attempts after the due date.

Allow Class Conversations:

  • Enable a discussion area within the assignment where students can ask questions and interact with each other and the instructor.

Collect Submissions Offline:

  • Use this option for assignments that don’t require digital submissions, such as presentations or physical projects. You can still record grades and feedback in Blackboard.

Other Tools under the Assignment Settings

Formative Tools

  • Enable Formative Assessment: When creating or editing an assignment, you can label it as a formative assessment.

Assessment Security

  • Set Access Codes: Require students to enter a code to access the assignment.

Be advised that after creating an assignment (with the formative assessment disabled), a column will be automatically created in the Gradebook for the discussion.

Do not forget to make your newly created Assignment visible to your students.
