One of the key features of Blackboard is the Discussion Board. This allows students to engage in meaningful conversations on a key topic that the instructor wants them to divulge into.

Option 1: Creating a New Discussion through the Course Menu

  • Navigate to your course in Blackboard Ultra.
  • Click on the Discussions on the course menu bar.

Option 2: Creating a New Discussion through the Course Content

  • Click the Plus Sign anywhere on the Content page of your course where you want to add new content.
  • Enter a title for your Discussion.
  • Provide a clear and concise description to guide the discussion. You may include in here guide questions for them to answer or give opinion about. This can also include scenarios, or topics for debate.

Note: Discussions are usually depicted as the icon below.

Setting Discussion Options

  • You may choose whether the discussion will be graded or ungraded.
  • Set availability dates to control when students can access and participate in the discussion.
  • In the Discussion Settings, you have complete control over student access. You can decide if the discussion appears on the Course Content Page, allow students to post anonymously, restrict posts to a single, un-editable submission, or set the discussion to be graded.
  • Do not forget to make your Discussion be visible to students.
