Modified on Sat, 18 Oct at 1:45 PM

Before taking a proctored exam using Respondus LockDown Browser, make sure your Mac has granted the browser access to the microphone, camera, and screen recording.

Follow these steps:

1. Open System Settings

  • Click the Apple menu at the top-left corner of your screen.

  • Select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).

2. Allow Camera Access

  • Go to Privacy & SecurityCamera.

  • Find LockDown Browser in the list of apps.

  • Toggle ON (green) the switch beside LockDown Browser.

3. Allow Microphone Access

  • Still under Privacy & Security, select Microphone.

  • Find LockDown Browser in the list.

  • Toggle ON the switch beside LockDown Browser.

4. Allow Screen Recording Access

  • Go to Privacy & SecurityScreen Recording.

  • Find LockDown Browser and toggle ON the switch beside it.

  • You may be asked to quit and reopen LockDown Browser to apply the change — choose Quit & Reopen if prompted.

5. Restart LockDown Browser

  • Close and reopen LockDown Browser to ensure the permissions are applied correctly.

  • You can then proceed with the Startup Sequence or Webcam Check before your test.

Tip: If LockDown Browser doesn’t appear in the list, open it once, allow any permission prompts that appear, then return to System Settings to adjust permissions manually.
